Alaska Supervision Requirements Changing July 1, 2026

Did you know that begining July 1, 2026, there are significant changes beginning for who can supervise and how alternative supervision is approved?

New Supervisor Qualifications
Under 12 AAC 18.113, clinical supervisors (LCSWs, psychologists, or psychiatrists) supervising post-graduate hours must meet the following baseline requirements:

• Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a licensed LCSW, psychologist, or psychiatrist.
• Licensure: Must hold an unrestricted license during the period of supervision.
• Initial Training: Must have completed at least 6 hours of continuing education (CE) in supervision or supervisory practices prior to supervising.
• Ongoing Training: Must complete an additional 6 hours of supervision CEs during every biennial licensing period.

Alternate Supervision Methods
If you require an alternate supervision setup (e.g., electronic communication, out-of-agency supervisor, or using an LMFT/LPC), you must use the official Request for Alternate Supervision Plan.

• You must receive board approval before you begin logging these hours; any hours collected prior to board approval will not count toward licensure.
